Steps to opening a charter school with us:
Submit Your Letter of Intent
Submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the upcoming cycle by the required due date.
Download the LOI linked below (as a Word Doc). On your LOI, indicate your intent to apply to open a charter school with the South Carolina Public Charter School District as your intended sponsor. Email a copy of your completed LOI to Catherine Watt, email@example.com. Upload your LOI to the SCDE Formstack Portal (which will be linked below when published by the SCDE).
Attend Our Workshop
Attend SCPCSD's Pre-Applicant Workshop to provide your committee with the training and tools necessary to assist you in writing an exceptional application.
Submit Your Application
Submit the Charter School Application linked below by 5:00 p.m. ET on February 1 via the SCDE portal and reviewed by the South Carolina Public Charter School District. The SCPCSD also requests a hard copy of the application is submitted to our office. Applications will be linked below once it is available from the SCDE. In the meantime, last year's application is linked below as an example.
All applications submitted to the SCPCSD will be reviewed by a team of skilled evaluators. The SCDE Charter School Application Evaluation Rubric is linked below. The SCPCSD Board of Trustees will conduct a public hearing within 90 days of the application due date to determine whether the charter committee will be granted a charter.
